Off Grid Living Inside the Mexican Drug War

I recently rented a house north of Cabo.  I still have my apartments in Acapulco but now I have two kids and two dogs (that's up one kid and one dog in the last few months alone!) and the apartment lifestyle wasn't working very well for such a big family.

Duque the Neapolitan Mastiff (third largest dog in the world) and Bruce Lee the Chihuahua (smallest dog on earth) - Guess who drew blood first? Bruce Lee!

That, and I have a hectic travel schedule for at least the next year, so when I found an amazing multi-million dollar, 3 bedroom house available for rent in Northern Mexico near a high volume international airport for $1,080/month, I took it.

[Ed note: This is one of the great things about international living - the prices.  If you can manage to earn your income over the internet or find ways to make money in foreign countries, you can live much better for much less money.  For under $1,500/month I have a multi-million dollar house, a full-time maid/cook/nanny and a full-time gardener/handyman]

Also, the house is on a five square kilometer lot and this gives me a great opportunity to have a place to learn to grow all my own food in preparation for the fun few years ahead.  Or, well, the guy who I pay $11/day to do it all will grow my food... but I'll be paying attention to how he does it!

I'll also be outfitting the place to be almost completely off the grid and will be recounting my experiences in the October issue of TDV.

The way I see it, I'll split my time for the next year between Acapulco and Cabo.  If things get bad during the coming fiat currency collapse then I'll have two options.  I can hunker down on the beach in Acapulco amongst other freedom lovers who have bought condos in my building there (http://acacondos.com) or I can drive, sail or fly to Cabo where I have a fully outfitted off-grid farm-style set-up complete with guard dogs (watch out for the chihuahua) and armaments.

In the meantime, I am building a truly out-of-the-way home in Northern Argentina in a place that I consider to be Galt's Gultch (read more about that here).  It'll probably be 1-2 years before that is complete though, so hopefully World War III can be staved off until then... I'm counting on you to keep papering over the collapse, Bernanke!

Mexico Narco Wars

But, some have asked, did you decide to get a house in Cabo and not Acapulco because it is too dangerous in Acapulco?

This headline says it all:

67 People Shot In Gunfire Over Holiday Weekend

Oops, sorry, that headline was from New York.  So, no, I didn't leave Acapulco because it is too dangerous.  But, things in Mexico have definitely gotten worse over the last few years.

This article from one of my favorite writers, Fred Reed, does a great job of describing what has been going on down here.

I have said for years that the US Government has been doing everything within its power to destabilize Mexico... from the planting of Swine Flu by CIA agents near Mexico City on a prior Obama visit to the smuggling of high powered weaponry into Mexico by the US Government in Operation Fast and Furious to the granting of billions of dollars to Mexican politicians (who are all one-in-the-same with the narco-traficantes) who basically pocket the money and then shoot up rival drug cartels to show "progress".

And this is all on top of the "War on Drugs" which is destroying the planet.  All, for what?

The US Government could end the War on Drugs and the War on Terror in a matter of seconds.  How?  Legalize all drugs and withdraw all of its 369,000+ US troops stationed in over 150 countries worldwide which are creating hatred for the US.

But then there'd be no one to fight and no one to put in all the jails.

And, as Hillary Clinton said, we can't legalize drugs because "there is too much money in it."

The US empire and the dollar will soon collapse under the weight of all these wars.  I just hope my tomatoes are ready in my garden by then.  They take about four months to grow, from what I am told.

It's going to be close.

Hi John... I’m not sure that graphic is exactly 100% scientific… it’s mostly just something found on the web which is mostly true so I grabbed it. As for curing cancer, perhaps what they were trying to imply is that cannabis can aid in the comfort of cancer patients

Interesting that it says cannabis grows brain cells. I was always taught it kills them...

Our University of Alabama patented personal solar desalination product (U.S. Made) uses no electricity, can be taken anywhere and extracts pure water from any contaminated water source. It removes radiation, fluoride, salt, pesticides, bacteria, dirt and other contaminants from any water source. Be prepared for disasters, save hundreds on bottled water and utility bills.

Panels can also be arrayed together to create an 'oasis in a desert' or other non water locations globally.
