A Perfect Storm of Political and Media Hype

This weekend's supposed emergency in New York was just another in a long line of political and media scare tactics undertaken to make the public feel like the government protects them.

With Hurricane Irene heading toward New York City, Michael Bloomberg, your typical Bureau Rat, stepped up to the microphone to tell millions of people what to do.

The thought that there is one man - or person - who just knows best for everybody, is such an expired idea that it is just comedy now.  The U.S.S.R. was the last vestige of this style of thinking.  It died in August 1991... more than 20 years ago - although the government in the U.S.S.A. is doing its best to bring it back.

Over the weekend, with a very mundane hurricane heading towards the Big Apple, perhaps the most scary sight was Barack Obama rolling up his shirt sleeves and "taking charge" at the hurricane command center.  After all, with his track record, he could very well turn this Category 1 hurricane into the world's worst natural disaster!

In New York, the local leader or witch-doctor, Michael Bloomberg, did his part and began waving his arms and jumping up and down.

First, he ordered... yes, ORDERED, 2 million people to flee, but stated, wistfully, "We do not have the manpower to go door-to-door and drag people out of their homes."

Oh, if only we had the manpower, hey Michael?  He can dream, can't he.

Then, after what amounted to a windy day and some heavy rain fell in New York, Bloomberg was held somewhat to account.

Defending himself, he stated, "We were unwilling to risk the life of a single New Yorker."

And that, in a sentence, explains government.  WE (the most dangerous word in the world) can risk everything and anything to save the smallest of things.  If one man does not fall in a puddle of water and die, then it has been worth the millions of inconvenienced and forcibly removed.  It is for the "greater good".

The media did its part to make it seem as scary as possible.

Hard up to find anything of dire consequence to report, they decided to send one reporter out to be doused with foamy raw sewage to show just how dangerous it was!  For him, anyway.

Another CNN reporter on Long Island was lucky to not draw the short straw to have to report in raw sewage but was forced, nonetheless, to act like he was in the midst of the storm of the century as people strolled along behind him, playing on their smartphones and riding their bikes, enjoying the gusty, fresh day.

But hey, when there is no news, sometimes you just have to get in front of a blue-screen and act like you are in a life and death situation (watch as these CNN "reporters" set-up their TV studio to look like it is in Saudi Arabia and then tune to the 7 minute mark to watch Academy Award winning acting)!

Still believe anything you hear on TV or from politicians?

Sadly, all the same scare tactics and techniques are employed by the financial mainstream media, like CNBC and were in full display during the recent "deficit cut" deal.

In that instance, instead of actually being about "cutting the deficit", it all turned out to be just a lot of hot air, as well. After months of supposedly arguing about "reducing the deficit" they came out with a deal whereby they will add $12 trillion of new debt over the next 10 years, nearly doubling the US total debt in one decade.  An event that all but indentured every American into slavery for life.  The media parroted the deal as an astounding success.

The media and the government say they are here to protect us.  But, the real question is, who is going to protect us from the media and the government?
