Do You Support the War on Drugs? Then You are a Murderer

Today marks the 40th anniversary of the worst thing to ever happen to the planet, the War on Drugs.
As chance would have it, I was walking past the television on which my Mexican fiance was flipping channels when I saw that the Mexican Government had captured "El Brad Pitt" - a supposed drug trafficker.
There is only one thing I ever find funny with these raids in Mexico - and it is the nicknames of the narco-traffickers. They "caught" El Barbie in Acapulco about a year ago, setting off gang violence that still to this day has not stopped in this once great city (it still is great - 99.9% of the problems is far, far away from the main tourist areas of Acapulco - but its reputation has been greatly sullied).
And yesterday, they caught a man who looks nothing like Brad Pitt and had a twenty minute press conference proudly announcing their catch. Skip to the 15 minute mark of this Government propaganda video and decide who you think looks like they are the criminals in this photo opp.
Good job, Mexican Government! Everyone in the world will stop doing marijuana and cocaine now, surely! That should be the end of it!
Far from it, this will only set off another spate of violence as people fight over El Brad Pitt's highly lucrative business venture. A business venture which is even more lucrative because it is not subject to taxation - it is amazing how quickly money adds up when the government does not take half of everything you make.
The War on Drugs has been ongoing for 40 years now with 0% results - actually, worse than 0%, drug usage has only increased - and has killed hundreds of thousands of people, imprisoned millions more and has turned much of the world into a police state. As of May 28, 2011, 50.8 percent of the US Federal prison inmate population was incarcerated for drug-related offenses. The financial cost of catching, prosecuting, and jailing all these drug offenders is enormous and unquantifiable. Some have thrown around the figure of $1 trillion but that doesn't take into account all the opportunity costs incurred.
If you support the War on Drugs, you support using force (all those guys in the black masks with machine guns) to force people to not do victimless things that you don't like - like marijuana - or you will kill them or put them in a cage.
If you support that you are despicable and responsible for heinous crimes against humanity.
Nancy Reagan should be hung for this - and not just for her bad acting.
There is nothing wrong with just saying no, Nancy. But being forced to say no or be jailed or shot, now you are the criminal.
How much longer must people be killed, imprisoned and accosted for the simple act of providing free-willed people with the 'drug' of their choice? Marijuana and cocaine aren't even drugs - that is the funny part. They are just plants.
Drugs? Like Adderall? Prozac? Now, those are incredibly dangerous drugs. Those are fine.
Marijuana is responsible for 0 deaths per year. Alcohol kills 100,000+ in the US. Cigarettes, much more than that.
Whether you want to smoke marijuana or do cocaine is your choice. When you use government to FORCE others not to, you are a criminal - and in the case of the War on Drugs, you are responsible for untold amount of death, destruction and trillions wasted gunning down peaceful people.

Try going to Managua and Tequsilalpa, Honduras with 800 dollars in your pocket with the intention of just meeting the people and living the life of the locals. If you some how think there are more beggers in Vancouver than Managua Nicuagua, try arriving there with 300 dollars in your pocket at 4:00am you will see 98% of the people begging for one dollar and half of them are kids. Then take a local bus to Nicuagua and negotiate with the Guarilla to live and keep your passport. that is experinces the third world.
You should leave your shit and life in "Mexico" don't take any credit cards , promise to your self you will not work or start a business take 2000 dollarfs, no facebook or msn, go off on your own and see how you do. And try and survive and travel in central America for 4 months, then maybe you will have some different experiences. Excellent, Jeff! I'm sorry that you don't seem to be getting many other readers, other than Mad Mark. But strike-the-root.com posted a link this morning, so hopefully more will read this. Your analysis is right on target, and I'm glad you didn't pull any punches.
I wrote Nancy Reagan years ago, when she said "Pot smokers are accessories to murder." Among other things, I told her she's a "pusher". A pusher of war. A pusher of intolerance. Etc. Dang, she never wrote back! ;-)
