Friday Thoughts & An Interview with Stirling Faux
Friday, May 27, 2011 at 9:35PM It's Friday. And I know some of the topics we talk about here are what some might call, "serious". I'd disagree with that somewhat, however. To quote the 1965 film of the same name, it is hopeless but it's not serious.
We are all just passengers on this ride of life. Some people have taken life too seriously and have turned into little devils running amongst us. Stalin, Hitler, Mao, Pol Pot, Bush, Clinton (choose your poison, Hilary or Bill), Obama... if just the right girl, at just the right time, had been kind with them, or at least not told them to "beat it, loser", many genocides could have been averted (which is all part of my upcoming book, "How women caused every genocide"). J/K
But, to quote Bill Hicks, it's ok, it's just a ride.
But I do realize that a lot of our topics are not of the happiest subjects. And for this reason I am attempting to make a conscious effort to make each Friday's blog post somewhat more laid back.
Many people, after all, still live by a Monday-Friday paradigm.
Funny story. After I quit working for other people and became an entrepreneur something interesting happened. I worked a lot harder... and I'd work nearly non-stop. BUT, every Monday, I'd sleep in and I'd rarely get much work done. I never thought about it too much until years and years later.
Probably some psychological thing in the back of my mind that knew that Monday is supposed to be everyone's "tough, back to work day"... so I turned it into my one half-day off. Humans are funny creatures. Some people gravitate to norms. I tend to fight against any norm.
So, anyway, it's Friday, so I am going to keep this light and, in the future, barring any serious occassion that demands a serious Friday post, I am going to try to keep them all light. Or at least lighter.
I am just going to make mention of a radio interview I did today with a great guy and a real radio professional (you can tell by his voice), Stirling Faux. The topic was mainly on the importance of geo-politically diversifying your assets before your own government institutes currency controls. That sounds way too heavy for Friday, but what can I do?
The interview can be heard here: http://talkdigitalnetwork.com/2011/05/clock-ticking/. Or you can download the MP3 directly here.
And with that I want to leave you with a joke that a subscriber sent me today. It, actually, as funny as it is, is more of a real commentary on life than a joke. And, I plan to talk more about this subject on Monday. But, for now, it is Friday. Let's keep it light.
Here is the joke. Have a fantastic weekend. In fact, enjoy every minute you are alive. If you don't, what's the point?
Here's something to think about.
I recently picked a new primary care doctor. After two visits and exhaustive lab tests, he said I was doing 'fairly well' for my age.
(I just turned sixty-something.)
A little concerned about that comment, I couldn't resist asking him, 'Do you think I'll live to be 80?'
He asked, 'Do you smoke tobacco, or drink beer, wine or hard liquor?
'Oh no,' I replied. 'I'm not doing drugs, either!'
Then he asked, 'Do you eat rib-eye steaks and barbecued ribs?
I said, 'Not much... my former doctor said that all red meat is very unhealthy!'
'Do you spend a lot of time in the sun, like playing golf, boating, sailing, hiking, or bicycling?'
'No, I don't,' I said.
He asked, 'Do you gamble, drive fast cars, or have lots of sex?'
'No,' I said...
He looked at me and said,.. ‘Then, why do you even give a shit?’

Jeff,
Interesting post, as our Constitution says it will provide for our common defense.
As you and I have touched on with regard to Dr. Murry Rothbard this fits in with his thinking and hypothesis on where we are.
Unfortunately we cannot go back and stop Wilsonian Doctrine, but we can assess where we are and make the changes necessary for the future.
In short we and the Western Nations have been sold a load of Bilge on the War on Terror, it's a war that cannot ever be won no matter what.
The consequences of 9-11 have been the institution of another "State of Fear" designed not to achieve any lofty goal of winning against terrorism but to control us.
The original State of Fear was the Cold War against Communism which we found out under Reagan was a House of Cards waiting to fall in as soon as kicked the door in.
To replace that we had Global Warming which wasn't quite enough fear so when 9-11 came it was tailor made for a new state of fear.
We, as you have observed and commented on, are more of a police state than ever with Homeland Security worried more about so called domestic terrorism, i.e. Right Wing and Left Wing groups, than overseas terrorists.
My own thinking has now evolved to the point that we need to pull out of the Middle East, Iraq, Afghanistan at the very least, Western Europe, Korea, etc., and bring all these troops home.
A number of these troops need to be redeployed to out southern border and cut once and for all illegal emigration from Mexico.
Maybe we need to pull back, close and give up a number of overseas bases ,and just let the chips fall and concentrate on our own country and hemisphere.
The question is can we, as a society, even have a civilized debate on this???????????????????????
