A Letter from a Subscriber on the Importance of Embracing Change
Wednesday, April 27, 2011 at 5:14PM Today I get the day off, somewhat, from the blog, which is good because I feel ill after having watched Ben Bernanke's press conference and the Statist, Keynesian, lapdog "questions" the "journalists" softballed at him. How about, "What makes you think you have the right to exist as an entity centrally planning the entire financial market?", or "Can you show one example from history where markets were centrally planned/managed and they performed better in the long run than a free market?" or "How exactly does counterfeiting trillions of dollars create jobs?". Not one of the coddling, cow-towing press corps even had the nerve to throw a shoe, like one of my personal heroes, Muntazer al-Zaidi.
The man is destroying the world, can we not spare one shoe?
The crazy part is that Ben Bernanke is making us (TDV subscribers) rich... but we still hate him. Why? Because we'd rather he didn't destroy the world and we could make money the old-fashioned way, by investing in and creating real wealth generating businesses. In the meantime, however, we just keep owning precious metals, other hard assets and the excellent mining related stocks that Ed Bugos finds for us each month while we await the armageddon that Ben Bernanke is about to wreak.
Speaking on more positive matters, I received a heartfelt and interesting letter today from a TDV subscriber that I felt I needed to share (with his permission, of course).
As I've mentioned countless times, our subscribers are some of the most amazing people in the world and this has become one of the really rewarding parts of writing our newsletter, is that it has opened up a whole new world of incredible people from around the planet that we may otherwise have never met.
Here is what he wrote:
Jeff,
I wanted to thank you for your most recent Blog in TDV (A Commencement Address from Steve Jobs that Every Young Person Should See), as it had some things that really hit a strong chord in me. You stated:
"In fact, since an early age I've always had it in my mind that I'd never do "anything" for very long. Why? Because in order to test yourself and continue to learn you have to continue to throw yourself into new and challenging situations."
This struck me because that has been the core of coaching for survival and self protection (one of my specialities) for decades as well as how I have also fashioned my life. Especially in these turbulent times where there is no longer anything called job security and people are chained to an existence that is so repetitive that it has brought with it a new wave of manic depressives throughout society. People that can no longer think or act freely as they are conditioned and then trained to be debt and life slaves.
At an early age they are indoctrinated into a cookie cutter existence that few ever fight their way out of... they are brainwashed (and charged a fortune for it, which enslaves them even further)... it is sad, but hopefully with people like yourself pointing out other ways and other possibilities there will be hope for more.
I was fortunate as my Father was one such pawn, who was transferred from state to state as a trouble shooter (I say fortunate as it was a unique education that is the core of my soul today). When he fixed the areas problem, they moved him (and the family), somewhere else to again fix problems (13 states and 32 locations). He did what he was told and had no options as he only had a High School degree, (he was fatherless in the depression and began working any job, anywhere he could from the age of 6, surviving was his main interest, not school style theory). Just before retirement age the company let him go as a final screw... he was not prepared as the expense of moving a family had even robbed him of the ability to save for it. What he was prepared to do however, as he did as a kid, was anything anywhere until he could no longer physically do it, with no fear of change, just the head down courage to do.
His education stuck with me, seeing it first hand, living it with him and adopting it as a suit of armor from experience, not theory and definitely not the formalized nonsense they tried to brainwash me with in any of those public schools. It is this experience and real education that enabled me to create my own life and path in accordance to what I saw was right or necessary.
It made me even savvy enough when I was a teen, to get a job at the gas station during the oil embargo of the seventies as I knew I could always get gas for my car as well as my families... this is what real education is for, to adapt and change as needed. I saw the fights in those long lines (coming to a station near you again soon), I bore the brunt of ignorant people as they spewed their anger at me (the lowly gas clerk), as if it were my fault. I only laughed as if I (a mere insignificant kid), had the control of the gas... they had control of absolutely nothing, just manufactured pawns with limited possibilities and even more limited hope! You can not depend on anyone other than yourself, your wits and the courage to follow your dreams or passions. Everyone needs the ability to think ahead and not be afraid of change... so few say it and this is one of the reasons I think your mission and newsletter is so invaluable.
So far I have had 12 careers (just started a new one as well last month), ranging from working on Missile Systems, Computer Design of Stealth Fighter engines to several of my own businesses (by the way I only have a bachelors degree from a state school... paid as I went from my labors). I now have 7 books in 5 languages as well as scores of other intellectual properties, businesses all over the world and a sense of freedom and security that few will ever know. Not only new jobs but new trades, businesses, intellectual property, in as many new places as possible for higher levels of security and as many incomes streams as possible... you must change, adapt or keep moving forward so that stagnation and decay do not overwhelm you. The challenge and change is life itself.
Also in the TDV newsletter you have been giving us, your subscribers, a compendium of great places to possible expatriate to, Argentina, Paraguay, etc and that is also ringing true as it is where I am currently building new businesses. As the US dries up, Europe staggers, Australia, South Africa and Scandinavia become nervous and cautious, the emerging economies like South America that you regale are the new safety zones (but change will be necessary for those that seek this new opportunity).
So once again I find myself thanking you for your insights into this Continent as well as your clarifying apprehensions of Mexico, no one else is doing it, no one else is discussing the needs for self protection in the for of possible expatriation... is it not a real possibility that may be needed? As a side note I have travelled to Juarez, Mexico for several years nurturing one of my businesses, but recently relocated (due to the chaos unfolding there) and based further south into Mexico City... you are correct, Mexico is not as dangerous as so many think. The border is an issue, but that is not all of the Country, there are many opportunities there (they are even thinking of backing the Peso with Silver). So once again you are educating us all in a new perspective and it is appreciated.
I wrote all of this not to just sing your accolades, or talk of myself, but to say that your Blog is spot on and actually quite unique. Stating that change is exhilarating and challenging or testing yourself constantly to learn, I see as a key to life and security. It is not only exhilarating, it is imperative in these times of global crisis that people have more than one skill, career or income stream as well as the possibility to make change a part of their thinking. It is also imperative that they plan for any possibility as well as the ability to adapt to any situation that comes up. In the months and years again as the world moves into deeper darker chaos, it is not just finances you need to be thinking of, it is every aspect of life... and the very reason your newsletter is unique.
Thanks for the great service you and the others are performing at The Dollar Vigilante!
Sincerely,
Evan Pantazi
