TDV's New Trading Service: The Golden Trader
Tuesday, December 20, 2011 at 6:56PM I am very pleased to announce the launch of our new trading service, the TDV Golden Trader (tdvgoldentrader.com) today. For those looking for a more active trading-style alert service, I think you'll be nothing but pleased with the TDV Golden Trader.
But, before I tell you more, I thought I'd give you some background on how I discovered the man behind the letter, Vin Maru, and why I think the new letter is interesting and important.
A CHANCE MEETING
I'm a big believer in allowing life to come to you. The way I've always found the best people to run businesses for me or to become partners in business is completely by happenstance. I've found that by putting out job postings and things like that, you rarely find the right person... but by being open and sociable and putting out the vibe that you are in need of a particular type of person, I find that the people you are looking for tend to cross paths with you. Call it what you will, but it's always worked for me.
TDV's current manager of operations, Michael Bach, was met by chance in a Starbucks in Acapulco. And how I met Vin Maru was not much different.
A Photo of Vin Maru Taken at Barbaroja in AcapulcoIt was 2008, right in the heart of the worst collapse in junior mining stocks in history. I hadn't yet launched The Dollar Vigilante, although it was in the midst of being hatched in my brain. For some reason I can't quite remember, I had wandered into a beach bar called Barbaroja in Acapulco and had met a girl who was with her sister and knowing how the Mexican culture worked, I knew that I'd get nowhere with her unless I had a wingman. I looked around for help when I saw this very happy looking, shorter Indian-looking man.
He appeared to be dancing by himself, very contently, and I asked him, "Want to pick up some girls with me?" He said, "sure," and we began to move in on the girls. Things went well and as the girls went to the washroom I asked him, "So, what do you do?"
"I trade stocks", he said.
"What kind?" I asked.
"Mining stocks, mostly gold stocks," he replied.
These stocks had just dropped 90% on average. I said to him, "Oh, wow, you must have gotten killed."
He just looked at me with a grin that I've gotten to know very well since and said, "Oh, no... this is what I live for!"
He went on to tell me how he trades the stocks and how the volatility is where you can scalp some really great profits in very short time periods. He told me a stock that he thought was a great buy and I made a mental note... with NO intention of buying it. I didn't get to accumulate some assets in my life by buying random stock picks from guys in beach bars in Mexico. But I did keep an eye on it. And, within a few weeks it had gone up 40%.
I bumped into him again, this time outside of a rock bar called Zydeco. "Hey, nice call on that stock," I said.
He just grinned... that same grin. "That's nothing," he said. This same process went on for months. He'd tell me a stock and a few weeks later it'd be significantly higher. Back then I was mostly buying stocks recommended by TDV Senior Analyst to be, Ed Bugos... and they were good stocks and did well, especially in 2009 and 2010, but they were and still are more "buy and hold" type stocks... which is fine. But, everyone likes the thrill of finding a short-term anomaly in the market and scalping it for some quick profits, so I have spent the last few years making nice little hit-and-run gains based on Vin's tips. But, better than just making regular profits were the analysis and reasoning behind each buy.. it is OBVIOUS this guy knows the market about as well as anyone.
I told Vin at the time that I'd love to work with him but it was more important for me to get The Dollar Vigilante established and get out all our info on what is going on geopolitically and economically and how to protect yourself through expatriation, geopolitical diversification of assets, buying foreign property and prospering from more long-term "buy and hold" style stocks from a world-class mining analyst like Ed Bugos. But I always said to Vin that as soon as I was ready to start a trading style newsletter that he'd be our man.
THE OFFICIAL LAUNCH OF THE TDV GOLDEN TRADER
That day comes today! I'm happy to introduce Vin and open up many of you to the really insightful information, strategies and tips that only someone like Vin, a 15 year trading veteran can give. Vin is one of those guys who will sit in front of a monitor all day, cigarettes burning down to singe his fingers as he concentrates on chart patterns and every trade looking for an angle... that combined with his deep knowledge of how the junior markets work makes for a powerful mix. As Vin always likes to say, "most people will get wiped out in these markets... but I follow the money."
What he means by that is that in the junior markets, if you are not a veteran like Ed Bugos or Vin you are more likely to be taken to the cleaners than make a fortune. In so many ways the game is rigged against the retail investor. But a trader like Vin watches every trade and knows the fundamentals of the company and knows when a brokerage like Canaccord is about to "take down" a stock so they can finance it at cheap levels. Vin sees that coming and shorts it on the way down and then buys in cheap like the "big boys".
It's a fun game when a guy like Vin is on your side. For $20/month or $200/year you can learn the ropes and get the inside tips from a trading veteran. For those that can handle the volatility and risk inherent in those markets, I highly recommend taking a look and signing up to Vin's new letter, the TDV Golden Trader. You can subscribe here: http://www.tdvgoldentrader.com/subscribe.
It's a very different style and format than our original TDV letter. Ours will remain an anarcho-capitalist, Austrian finance based geopolitical review of all that is going on in our world today and how to protect yourself and your assets and give advice on certain junior gold stocks that we expect to hold for up to 1-2 years for nice profits. If you want to trade in and out along the way for fun and profit, look to sign up to Vin's Golden Trader. I'm thrilled that the rest of the world is getting access to the insights I've now enjoyed for years.
